Director of Marketing and Income Generation
This senior management post provides an opportunity for someone with passion and commitment to work in a progressive organisation and help us achieve our vision – a society in which we can thrive as we age.
The main purpose of this role is to be responsible and accountable for the strategic development and operational delivery of Age NI’s Marketing, Communications, Fundraising, Business Development & Social Enterprise functions.
The main responsibilities of this role are:
Marketing & Communications
- Lead the development and delivery of the Age NI communications strategy including the development of key messages about the work of the Charity
- Implement a strategic approach to internal and external stakeholders ensuring communications are aligned and support the overall Age NI strategy
- Support the Head of Marketing & Communications to develop and implement people, resources and marketing and communications plans and budgets.
Fundraising
- Lead the development and delivery of Age NI’s Fundraising Strategy to grow legacies, corporate and events, major donors, individual giving and trusts & foundations income
- Support the Fundraising Manager to develop and implement people, resources, fundraising plans and budgets.
Business Development
- Lead the development and delivery of Age NI’s Business Development Strategy
- Drive innovation across the Charity in the use of new income generation strategies with the aim of securing long term sustainability
- Oversee project management of Test and Learn business development projects to monitor and report on achievement of outcomes, KPIs and impacts, ensuring effective systems and budgets are in place for delivery and shared learning
- Oversee partnership development with national and local organisations to facilitate business opportunities, service development and marketing of Age NI products and services
- Oversee management of tender procurement and bid writing
- Support the Head of Business Development to develop and implement people, resources and business development plans and budgets.
Social Enterprise
- Lead the development and delivery of Age NI’s Social Enterprise Strategy including Retail and Independent Living Products
- Support the Retail Manager to develop and implement people, resources, retail income generation plans and budgets.
Senior Management Team
- Lead and supervise the Fundraising, Marketing & Communications, Business Development & Social Enterprise teams including setting targets, reporting requirements and monitoring performance
- Attend and represent the Charity at relevant networking events, opportunities and act as an ambassador/spokesperson for the organisation
- As a member of SMT, plan and develop strategic plans, board reports and attend Trustee meetings as required
- Lead the Age NI Signature Projects to horizon scan and future proof service delivery and partnership working of the Charity
- Hold corporate risk responsibility for Reputation Management and Income Generation
- Take on-call responsibility in line with other SMT members.
Applicants must have the following essential experience:
- A demonstrable understanding of strategic communications, marketing and brand management
- Experience of influencing a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and building positive relationships
- At least 5 years fundraising experience at a senior level with a proven track record of delivering successful, innovative and targeted fundraising campaigns
- Demonstrable experience of business development and proven track record of income diversification and growth
- Proven experience of developing large income generation bids and applications
- Proven experience of strategic planning and deploying same into tangible and measurable plans and objectives.
It is desirable that applicants have the following:
- Understanding of the impact of our ageing population on individuals, families, communities and service delivery
- Understanding of the wider charity sector
- Good understanding of the regulatory environment for charity governance and fundraising.
Applicants must have the following:
- Demonstrate a sound understanding of:
- organisational and people management involving leadership styles and teamwork
- budget planning and financial control
- business planning
- quality assurance
- information management and governance.
- Excellent organisational skills and interpersonal skills
- Outstanding communication skills including the ability to communicate with, persuade and influence others and deliver high quality presentations
- Ability to lead, inspire, motivate and support staff to deliver against stretching targets and tight deadlines.
- Relevant qualification and/or proven track record in marketing, business development or fundraising.
Additional Circumstances:
- Be able to travel across NI with occasional overnight stays in GB
- Full current driving licence and access to a car for business use or access to a form of transport to fulfil the travel requirements of the post.

What Age NI can offer you:
- Salary Scale: £60,713 - £62,534 per annum (under review)
- Hours: Normal working hours are 35 per week. Directors may be required to work such additional hours as are necessary for the proper performance of their duties.

First Connect Volunteer (Belfast area)
First Connect offers dedicated emotional and practical support at difficult times in an individual’s life; situations which are often triggered by feeling the loss of independence or sudden unexpected changes in important relationships.
First Connect volunteers provide support to older people, helping to reduce isolation and loneliness.

Shared Lives Carer
Shared Lives is based around carers sharing their home, family and community life with an older person who needs support. It helps older people to stay as independent as they can, for as long as possible.
