“Look out for older people” says Age NI as Storm Darragh forecast

Age NI is urging people to look out for older family, friends and neighbours over the weekend as Storm Darragh hits.

Stormy weather conditions can be especially dangerous for older people who are at increased risks of falls and poor health. With flooding and power cuts possible, there is also the risk that more older people will feel isolated at home and cut off from their family and friends.

Paschal McKeown, Charity Director at Age NI, says:

“With amber weather warnings in place, older people in affected areas may be in need of extra support.

“Bad weather may make it difficult for people to get out for essential shopping, so we’d urge everyone to check in on older family, friends and neighbours during this period to find out if they need any extra support.

Taking the time to check in and make sure older people are ok can make a huge difference.”
