Statement from Age NI regarding power cuts

Published on 27 January 2025 01:09 PM

As many parts of NI are still without power following Storm Eowyn, Age NI is calling on people to look out for older family members, friends and neighbours.

Linda Robinson, Chief Executive of Age NI said;

We have received calls this morning from some older people who are still without power.

We are very concerned for anyone older who is still without electricity, particularly those who live alone and may be in poorer health or have less mobility. It is those people who rely on hearing or walking aids, or medical equipment such as stair lifts, oxygen or dialysis machines, who will be severely impacted by power loss.

We are calling on everyone to rally together to support our older friends, family and neighbours.  Please offer to help where you can, such as bringing hot food and drinks.  Offering to help with shopping or collecting medications could be a lifeline for someone who feels isolated at home during this time.

We are also urging older people to make sure they get in touch with someone if they need help.  Also try to stay warm by wrapping up in blankets and wearing extra layers of clothes.

While we cannot answer any queries regarding power restoration, our Advice team is here to help anyone who needs information.  Call 0808 808 7575, Monday - Friday 9am – 5pm.
